Where are you this weekend? - 2024/25

College 7s tune-up in St Louis. If it's anything like the qualifier I worked earlier this month, should be fairly easy.

Fighting Irish 7s @ Notre Dame - just need the storms to stay away. Will be on the livestream at least once in the middle, probably more as AR.

Today

AR for Sheffield Varsity

UoS v Hallam

Never done one before. Used to be quite raucous but now kicks off earlier so spectators are less p****ed up. Nice weather might make them start early however. First game at 12h00. Mine 14h30.

Young lad refereeing and we've borrowed the NLMOT comms so that'll be novel for him. Should be good.

District league game: Fairwater Bulldogs V Pontyclun II. I've had both so far this season. Should be interesting. There was just 3 points in it the the reverse fixture. Might be playing shortish advantages While I see what "mood" they are both in.

Game called of 1 hr and 20 mins before KO. Away team could not raise a side. I'd already started my warm up. Managed to get an AR gig a few miles away so all was not lost.

already assigned to the Rx 7s hosted by USHP (formerly St Louis College of Pharmacy)

There’s four other assignments occurring concurrently that I’ve been approached about doubling up on that I’m loath to take.

Next week we have the URDD schools 7s in Cardiff. I'm doing 3 days there (grandkids the other 2!) Then the Sunday after I'm in Luctonians for their Mini / Junior Festival No Game that Saturday as I'm watching my club. Might get a late game for this Saturday. Hope so.

Peterlee vs Ponteland (L7) 3rd vs 6th - Peterlee are 1 point off 2nd and possible promotion if other results go for them.

Also have the U14 County Cup final on Sunday which will be the first time these lads experience a game like this so hope to make it a good experience for them

Currently cruising round Japan. Might be there for the return match but may be playing masters RL in my off season!
You missed an entertaining game. 2RCs one for each side. Ben Thaler was there watching him.

Interesting scenario. RCs for an on field player (Red) and a blue sub. Restarted with 12 v 13.
He took the scenario from RU but Thaler confirmed he was correct in RL. Red coach was perplexed as to the natural justice but accepted Jr’s “sales pitch”

4+ inches of rain scheduled to come down in short order, games are getting called left and right due to local govs/park districts cancelling reservations.

Have picked up a Nat League6 game Gifach (going from promotion) Vs Sully (struggling a bit). Nice that I've had three games "at the next level" this year. But too old to go up. Just pleased to be able to do it.

This weekend:-

Nat 2 North AR2

  • Hull v Tynedale

Relegation scrap - currently 14th v 6th (out of 14). Hull's appalling recent form (although they beat Harrogate last weekend) has seen them slip to last place although 3pts covers the bottom 4.

N2N.jpg

Tynedale's poor start - no wins from the first seven games - is a thing of the past and they sit comfortably in the top half.

Last place will be relegated although it appears the best of the worst performers ie the best 13th place in N2N, N2E and N2W will survive which almost certainly means N2N's candidate will survive unless something dramatic happens in the last two games. It did last year when on the final day Billingham managed a losing bonus point against Rotherham and Hull Ionians turned around a 100 pts +/- difference sending Wimbledon in N2E down to L5.

Taking the weekend off - daughter's ballet group has two shows this weekend, and I am working security at the one I won't be watching.

Sunday

AR2

Yorkshire Cup U18 Final @ Castle Park Doncaster

  • Hull Ionians v Huddersfield
Looks like it might be the end of the good weather but a L3 referee and a pair of NLMOT ARs all from SYR so should be a good day.

After three weekends off (two planned, one weather-induced), doing a friendly 7s event at SIU-Carbondale for women's teams that didn't qualify for CRCs.
