Where are you this weekend? - 2024/25

First run-out of the spring - two-day college 7s event down in Rolla, MO - 10 men's sides, 6 women's. 46 games across two days, 4.5 referees to cover them.

Excited, but also keeping a close eye on the forecast given the Jekyll/Hyde tendencies of the weather so far this winter.

This weekend:-

Nat 2 North AR2

Sheffield Tigers v Harrogate

Basement battle - currently 12th v 13th (out of 14) but 6 pts between them.

Depending how it pans out in this fixture and elsewhere Harrogate and Billingham could be cut adrift. Interesting stuff (sort of).

Counties 1 D&N - Bishop Auckland vs Horden & Peterlee (10th vs 2nd), Had my wallet nicked out of their changing rooms and red carded a coach (separate games!) at Bishop in the last 2 seasons so hoping for an uneventful run around!

This weekend:-

Nat 2 North AR2

Billingham v Preston Grasshoppers

Another Basement Battle - currently 14th v 10th (out of 14).

Billingham are 9pts from safety and desperately need a win. Harrogate (13th and 7 pts from safety) have a difficult game at Hull Ionians so both bottom sides could be well adrift on Saturday evening if Hull beat Chester.

I am due to do the next two Billingham games so that'll be interesting.

back after a few weeks of with a knee niggle. Kirby Lonsdale 2 v littleborough 2 1.30 kickoff so will miss the ireland v france game but should get back to my club for scotland v wales

Next Thursday 13th

I have been appointed to be an AR for:-

Continental Tyres Schools Cup Final U18 at the Allianz Stadium - I though it was the Saracens one but it appears to be at Twickenham

QEGS (Wakefield) v Harrow

Referee is LLP junior so that'll be extra good especially as it's probably his RU swansong before he concentrates on Rugby League.

Do the new Laws apply yet where you are ?
I have been told to implement them in full.

EDIT: Given that I will likely be working the first two rounds of Nationals qualifiers in May, I'm interested to see if the new laws will be in effect there. The clubs in my main region (Midwest) that are qualified did so in November, while clubs in the other regions (Mid-America, Rocky Mountain) are mid-season. Last time I was involved in that event and there were 1/1 law changes, they were not.

They’ll be quite happy with that if you keep bringing BP wins!
It was 0-0 for about 30 mins. Very cagey. I was thinking if you can't play Rugby on an AGP (both clubs have them) in 17 degrees and no wind you BOTH deserve to be relegated! Then it all broke into life. Some good tries scored by both sides.

The AGP stinks when it gets sunny!!

As mentioned previously. this weekend.

N2N AR2

Lymm v Billingham

Another pair of teams with AGPs in N2N. Lymm still 3rd although their season seems to be petering out, having lost only once up to Christmas, they have now lost five. Both they and Sheffield have fallen away leaving Leeds Tykes top with a sizable lead at this point in the season. Billingham will be keen to build on last weekend's BP victory over Preston which at the finish looked like it might haul them off the bottom only to find that Harrogate had won too. Hull's loss brings the bottom two a bit closer to survival and they all play each other in April - exciting finish in prospect.

AR1 for BYU @ Lindenwood women, then center for the 2nds.

First game will likely one-sided (LU won on the road 79-3 in the prior fixture), just a matter of how much the wind affects the score (football stadium at the bottom of a hill, winds projected to be 20mph most of the day). 2nds should be more competitive.
