Where are you this weekend? 2013-14

Had a weekend off this week. Got a colts final next weekend, To3. That's my last scheduled 15s game, then I'm off to the midland 7s at the end of May.

Cracking game won by home side in Q4 with two terrific tries. Decent crowd, backdrop of Windsor Castle with Royal Standard flying (no sign of a London taxi in car park though, or an elderly lady in a headscarf). Super hospitality afterwards by blazers, coaches and players - real pleasure to be in a real rugby club.

NZ referee (chatting with 'cousins' on both sides before match) who was fit & quick, good empathy, and consistent - mentioned by both DoRs afterwards. Turned out he played good grade stuff back home. Some rough edges in management and communication need attention before he progresses next season, as I am sure he will. Real pleasure to watch him.
 
Got my club's Old Boys game on Saturday, and the Yorkshire U19 Cup Final on Sunday. Then got the South Yorkshire Uniplex Plate Final on Tuesday 29th before my season wraps up.

Will then be looking forward to refereeing in Australia from the beginning of June!
 
Well the weekend was a cracker.

Oh and for anyone wondering about a step up in levels with National League games **** my life there is :)
Level 3 is far far far harder than 5/6, what an experience though. I didnt have the greatest game (naturally) but didnt mess it up either, good coach report (from a ref coach who was coaching at Northampton the day after) and assessment.
Every decision is massive, you need to be mega fit, and things happen soooo fast.
Feedback from coaches was very constructive.

This week should be ok, Navy vs RAF tomorrow. (AR)
Next is going to be mental :)

Andy - well done, and good that you have that experience under your belt. Now you can see why it so tough to make the step from Group at L5 to Panel, and hence a lot of very good L5 referees struggle to make the transition.

Keep working hard as you have obviously been put on the radar. Best of luck.

Yeah its nothing like 5!!! It was like right thats the first game with a massive boot up your bum, you can coast a bit at 5/6 not here, never a second to take the foot off the gas.

Paper work is a nightmare though, 3 yellows and a red all to report grrrr!!!

2 NYC and 9 CC will do me :)

9 x CC is a good start - 12 parts a to l in Management Competencies and 20 sections in Technical Performance - so 9/32 with 21 C's. Were the two NYCs in Management Competency or Technical Performance sections ?

(for other readers :MOs are requested to mark a competency as “CC” when the referee has exceeded expectations for the Level and Challenge of that game and to mark it as a “C” when the performance meets expectations. When a referee does not meet expectations for that Level then the competency should be marked as “NYC”. Comments, including relevant points/timings, must always be made when “NYC” is awarded. Comments may also be make against “CC” and “C” markings. The “Overall Comment” box should also be used to expand on comments or record comments not shown elsewhere and to note CIs and Law errors. Where a competence has not been tested “IE” should be used. ) updated by ST based on Oct 2013 RFU new form

Adapts refereeing style to challenges. Although he adapted well in the 1st quarter, his game awareness appeared to falter as the game progressed (pressure was on, its was quick and I was knackered mental and physical fitness needs to be better is my take)

Ensured all restart kicks were taken correctly & Players were onside. Missed 2 incidents of player in front from the restart and penalised on the 3rd. (although I felt 2 were NM, but didn't have a word so fair cop) 2 times also I got in the channel of the 9.
 
Well, I had arranged to get the motorcycle professionally valeted and ACF-50 treated. Leave work and get a message from a club confirming Saturday's match!

Its Spalding v Newbold on Avon in a promotion play-off match; with ARs and a 4th official too!

Guess the valet will have to be postponed for a week - plus its a good warm up for the East Mids Cup Final on Wednesday night!
