The Club Referee - the app is back!

Hello Everybody!
The Club Referee app is back, now available on iOS and Android, and I’m looking for a few keen referees to help me take it from a solid beta to absolutely amazing.
It’s very stable now, but I really need real-world feedback from referees of all levels and codes.


What's it called?
The Club Referee

What does it do right now?

• Live scoring & event logging – instantly broadcast globally so anyone can follow the game in real time
• Automatic Yellow/Sin-Bin timers with alerts when time is up , also alerts coaches.
• Generates a full PDF match report at the end of every game
• Stores everything securely in the cloud
• Pushes instant live updates to fans via The Club Fan app (maximum engagement!)

• IRFU Tag
• GAA Football, Camogie, Hurling

Too good to be true? I thought so too… until I started using it myself!

Here’s a quick walkthrough (highly recommend watching this one before your first game):

Feel free to set it up and try it on a televised game or from the sideline first – no pressure!

My full focus right now is on perfecting the Referee app. I’m pushing updates almost weekly.
What should I work on next Apple Watch or Voice Control?..
"Referee. " beebeep. "Save a goal for Melbourne number five" Beebeep - "[AI voice]Saving a Goal for the Home Team, Melbourne, number 5" -> instantly logged, no fiddling about.
I also want the coaches to be able to send substitution requests: "Bebeep. Melbourne substitution requested".

Player and Coach apps are also in development → proper team sheets, player ID checks, and an end to imposters sneaking onto the pitch.

I'm working very hard on the Yellow Card management for the Rugby Refs.

• Reminder appears on main screen with total card count for the team [Home: 4 | Away 2].
• Timer counting down shows Jersey number and remaining time in Sin Bin "#7 00:20"
• Pop-up alert when Sin-Bin expires.
• Reminders which jersey numbers have already been carded on the Events screen.
• Notifications automatically sent to The Club Fan

It's going well in testing, I'm happy. What do you think?
And few more checks to do for GAA and RL etc, it will be available in the next release this week. 15/11/2025

I'd be using it on an iPad which I would use pitchside. Would be useful to be able to capture everything that happens in a match. At the moment I use the app on my wrist that I mainly use for being out in the middle. Everything has to be captured on paper, but if this is good it would prove useful as there are times that things get a bit manic and trying to jot everything down goes out the window

Much appreciated DocP. I haven't tested it on the iPad and I'm not sure it will install there yet, iPhone or Android. Should be a new release on Apple Store today.
You get your match report in the menu at the end of the game (I should automate that).
And others around you can track what you're doing on The Club Fan.

Needs to be on a Smart watch a ref just can easily use a phone on the pitch. So it's no go for me until that is done.

The yellow card does not how on the "front page" Until the 10 minutes end. I'd like it on the front.

Tried to cancel errors and it did not work a few times.

Clock needs a "Countdown" facility. Players ask: "How long left?" rather than: How long have we been playing?"

Red Card is obsured by the cancel button on my "large screen phone!

Does it automatically up grade 2 YC for the same player to a RC?

What make, model of smart watch have you got?

"Does it automatically up grade 2 YC for the same player to a RC?" No. I don't want the phone taking control of anything over the Ref. I thought you give 2 events; another Yellow, then a Red?! I was wondering should I add a Yellow for Review? Is that a thing on the grassroots pitches??

"Tried to cancel errors and it did not work a few times." You can edit an event in the TimeLine but I have no allowed for them to be deleted yet. I need more input for consideration on this.

"Red Card is obscured by the cancel button on my "large screen phone!" WHICH PHONE and WHICH SPORT please?? This is why field testing is needed , I only own 6 phones. Hopefully I can get an emulator for your phone model.


I'm going to clean up a few bits like the Yellows that are mentioned above. This is harder than it looks because it affects all 12 sports not just RL / RU.
There is a "bounce tap" bug creeping in , this is when people tap the phone once but the phone detects two taps and saves 2x , fixing that right now urgent.

Next is voice or watch?... there are a myriad of watches so I'll target voice for next week. "Referee:" b-beep. "Time remaining?" [AI voice] 22 minutes remaining in this half.

In the future The Club Coach will be able to send messages to the Referee: "Substitution requested by the Home Team" , this will also appear on the watch.

I don't have a Samsung A71 emulator specifically (I'll keep looking) but I do have a 2400x1080 emulator and here is a screen grab. You said the Red button is obscured? Any chance you have any Visibility settings adjusted or skins on your phone that may affect the layout?

You can see here the Yellow card reminders on #02 and #04 coming this week - is it enough or should they be more yellow or ?! (I'll add red later).

Also to note; The Jersey numbers are actual place holder for viewing the Players photo and profile later on. When team sheets are added to a match you'll be able to examine child ages etc. Waiting on The Club Player and The Club Coach apps with Team Sheets etc to be integrated.

I tried to use it yesterday on iPhone. Couldn't add a venue. Save button was greyed out. Therefore I couldn't get a match to start without venue.
Also I figured out how to add teams but I created one by mistake that was incorrect and I couldn't delete it. I then ran out of time to continue playing with it

Greyed out means something required was not filled in

Locations give me a right headache because to make them searchable you need Country- province-county / Ireland-Leinster-Dublin. But this does not translate smoothly to other countries. United Kingdom-England-Greater-London , and what's worse is I don't know if that's correct. I'm having to rely on Grok and other searches. So this is something I'll have to iron out over time for sure.

Thanks for trying, I do appreciated it, stick with it, a lot of work still on-going and it will be perfected. If you're stuck in these early days just select any existing venue.

There were errors in the database. Well spotted! I have rebuilt that table. If you try again now it should work. You might have to click off UAE to another country and back to UAE to get it to call down the rows. You should now see UAE - Dubai - Ber Dubai / Deira for example.
The adding of venues still needs some work, I want to use the map more and display the pins on it.

@DocP @Marc Wakeham et al , new releases today focusing on Rugby feedback for iOS 1.4.3 and Android 0.6.9.

Yellow cards are displayed on the front page.
RL RU Tag Yellow card time remaining on the front page.
If multiple Yellow Cards, time remaining iterates through them.
Match Time remaining on the front page.
Red card displayed on front page.

Events Page, Yellow Card reminder next to jersey number.
Events Page, Red Card reminder next to jersey number.


UAE Emirates and Districts have been reviewed and updated.
Oz Tag has been added to the line up.

All changes reflected properly in The Club Fan.

Bug fixes:
GAA Own Goal / Own Point are now being calculated correctly.

Known bugs:
Red card displays alongside Yellow card on events page when selecting the Home Team. Already fixed and ready for the next release.
Filters not working on venues. All venues are being shown.
"Tap Bounce" , tap once but 2x or more taps are being registered resulting in multiple saves to the database showing multiple versions of that match or event. Requires server-side fix to ignore subsequent duplicate saves.


Home has 1 Yellow. Away has 1 Yellow and 1 Red.

Do we want a 60 second Conversion timer on grassroots?
