Ruck offside line sarries bs saints

So just watched the following Sarries ruck. Player perfect long lay back. Players on feet both sides around the ball so sarries players body extends well out towards saints line. Ref tells saints player that off side line is that players back foot. Correct call?

Yes, there was a clarification a few years ago. I believe after ENG-NZ, the disallowed Underhill try.

Are you referring to the player placing the ball... their back foot?

never thought about it before..

so does that mean if the presenting player's feet are significantly beyond the defending ruckers' [*] own feet no defender can join the ruck as to do so would mean being offside prior to binding ?

[*] think initial tackler/tackle assist so in the area before ruck formed by them

In theory, you could have a lock who's lying full length with arms stretched. The tackle assist is then ~2m past his feet, support comes in and forms the ruck, and *technically* any defenders who come in to try and counterruck are then offside.

In practice, you blow it up and no-one's impressed. :D

Lying the length of the pitch and placing the ball back towards their DBL.

The explanation given was that the defenders' offside line was the last body part of any player involved in the ruck, not just the last defender. IIRC it was as a result of this
As black stepped through, although Lawes is arguably on the edge of offside counting the white player on the ground.

I totally agree.

BUT that is what the 12 year has decreed _SHOULD_ happen.

I do not see a ruck in that video. Is the offside offense at a tackle?

Yes he was doing what we coach long narrow lay back. The players in the ruck on their feet were all around his upper body. Ref called the offside line his feet
