Itoje knock on?

Ciaran Trainor

Referees in England
Ireland v England about 17.30 on game clock Itoje was judged to have knocked on in a tackle and England ultimately intercepted and "scored".
Thought it was a bad decision at the time and now I look at it I'm convinced the ref guessed and guessed wrong.
There is no clear evidence of a knock on for me and the ref could not have had a clear line off sight
Crucial time in the game too.
any thoughts?
Edit:Sorry link doesn't work, anyone have a clip?

If the ball spills loose from a tackle it's always a knock on, one way or another
(definitions / law 11.2 )
Can't see the video, hit does that help ?

I've had a look. Looked to me like a knock on by white #4, but possibly just contact with green #3's wrist. It warranted a closer look by TMO.

Only if the tackler contacts the ball. If he jolts the ball carrier's arm or hand, and ball goes towards ball carrier's goal line, its play on

and it goes forward, agreed but there was no clear evidence off that and the ref blew before the "try" was scored so TMO wasn't really relevant
Both directions are forward though . once the tackler makes contact It's either per definitions or per law 11.2

Not if the tackler's tracking back, say after a line break or kick-through. And not if the ball carrier's running back towards their DBL to evade the oncoming rush defence :)
Or tackler rakes ball away from ball carrier towards own DBL

(But this is a good example of how hard it can be to make laws, because *of course* it's always a KO when we think of a tackle... until we think of other situations than the one we're making a law to address)
