Is reffing around line outs becoming too lax?

Eng v Irland U20 international tonight. French ref penalises Eng for leaving line early (before throw) and having more than one receiver. A French thing or is it now back in vogue? Interesting to see the rest of the internationals during the next few weeks.

Or maybe not after Mr O'Keefe's penalty against England, perhaps Itoje looked at him in too strong a term!

It was farcical! Where was the TMO stepping in to say "mate you have go that so horrendously wrong."

Or the other where he pinged them for closing the gap but they caught the ball!

If that's where the ball is and if I don't jump you allow them to throw it squint what am I supposed to do?

The usual infringement is closing the gap before the ball is thrown - 18.10 - not closing the gap in going for the ball. Another case where short-hand is unhelpful.

Happy with that but we are in a position where tinkering in the interest of making the game less technical and more appealing to the masses reduces some of the significant attributes of the game. Competition.

He warned LCD to move back onto the Line of Touch once quite forcefully. Once he's set that standard he should maintain that throughout the game. If one team is following the hooker that is moving away from LOT then the correct action is to stop, reset the LOT and reassert the gap, or ping the hooker veering off the mark and towards his own team, not to ping the team that is trying to get a fair competition.

But we saw a number of times where Mr O'Keefes consistency went AWOL.

Stop messing. Just apply the Laws as they are!
