Game of millimeters

Rugby can be a game of millimeters. It would seem a trend has been allowed to develop where a player taking a penalty kick for touch, can advance
past the mark of the penalty! In some cases it can be metres. This gain in territory is an unfair advantage and is a trend that needs to be stopped.

100% agree. Showbiz rugby again ignoring the laws then it creeps in at grass roots.
Doesn't happen at my level. if they try it, a quick word in their ear, next time, peep, scrum, I warned you.

I agree I don't carry a ruler but if I feel the guy is close to taking the p%ss a warning and scrum next time.

There used to be a scrum back for an incorrectly taken kick but it seems to have been "simplified" out of the good book.

It would seem you can stop play and ask for the kick to be taken correctly, or scrum for anything not covered by Laws. Both would appear correct but I would be interested in why you chose a particular option.

20.2 - A penalty or free-kick is taken from where it is awarded or anywhere behind it on a line through the mark and parallel to the touchlines. When a penalty or free-kick is taken at the wrong place, it must be re-taken.

Retake the kick, bizarrely in the video the ball is played from exactly the same point after it was bought back

20.11 The ball must be kicked a visible distance. If the kicker is holding it, it must clearly leave the hands. If it is on the ground, it must clearly leave the mark. Once the kick has been successfully taken the kicker may play the ball again.
Sanction: Scrum.

But not copied into Law 19.

Indeed but as we were told and as has been reiterated by WR's Law man the law did not change it was simplified. I understand the intention is to "correct" ommisions in further reviews. Sothe sanction remains.

It doesn't have to be repeated to be enforced, so we are in agreement.
