does anyone have premier sports?

Ciaran Trainor

Referees in England
all games off in Cumbria.
I know I'll go up the club meet a few old mates, put some money behind the bar, have a few beers and watch rugby on TV.
Oh bugger, nothing on, the powers that be have sold out to yet another pay channel.
They really do know how to promote the game!!
Anyway Ospreys v Newcastle on S4C at 5.30 it is then.

I paid, after having a massive whinge to myself, £10.99 per month, so less than 2 beers but find:
  1. As they are down the pecking order the pundits and commentators knowledge and competence is lower than TNT sport. Difficult I know but watching a game yesterday where they were congratulating "excellent" kicks when the team was gifting away possession when more than 2 tries behind with less than 10 mins left.
  2. The picture and audio quality is really poor, yesterday had a synch issue where the audio was about 1.5 s behind the video.
  3. The video keeps wanting to buffer and stuttering rather than smooth playback.
  4. Complete loss of transmission today watching Toulon v Quins
  5. Aside from it being a unusual format, both pool set up and SA teams being involved, that makes no real sense, no-one seems to care about it not being readily available to supporters
If the RFU wanted to encourage supporters to attend clubs and spend money over the bar then they should reach an agreement with service provider, Sky, TNT or now Premier Sport that all member clubs will get free viewing rights rather than having to pay.

Question is does it affect performance based remuneration?

But the RFU doesn't own or control the TV rights for premiership or European rugby... So not much they can do about these

And that there is the rub!

Perhaps I didn't provide enough between the lines.

The demise of amateur rugby, described by the clubs who are suffering

Struggling for players in a crowded sporting landscape, grass-roots teams are disappearing, with some blaming RFU ‘intransigence’

Mixed governance with everyone free to milk the system for their own benefits, 3 premier teams going to the wall and playing population @ grass roots diminishing!

One might consider the governing body could/should resolve it, hence my comment about performance based pay.

RFU is perfectly capable of entering commercial agreement to provide services for registered clubs, just like insurance or kit deals or even access to rugby on whichever channel or mode of media it is listed on.

If they can't co-ordinate some of those efforts and enter into difficult negotiations to not only protect but grow participation at all levels, what are they getting rewarded for?

If they can get the game back into growth and accessible then perhaps some bonus might be justified.

I think premier are asking about £1000 for a typical club .
I guess if the RFU bought a license for every club they would achieve a significant discount, but still would add up to a lot of money

But I am with you in spirit!
