50-22 from scrum on half way.

Yes.
The mark is on the half but the ball may be put in inside the half. Maybe the real question is if the ball is taken against the head can the opposition kick 50:22?

Theoretically, the SH with the ball feeds directly along the half-way line with a straight feed (hah!) so I think it’s Schrödinger’s ball that is simultaneously in both halves and neither half until a team takes possession.

In reality, the squint feed means it more likely got kicked by the hooker or prop from the team with the feed forward into their opponents half, and so was not taken in by the now-attacking team and 50:22 is on.

However, if the ball went in and the defending team drove them back to win possession, then I’m not 100% sure on this. To me, they’ve taken possession inside their opponents half and will have taken it back into their half to start open play and so the 50:22 is not on - maybe getting possession back is reward in itself.

The USAR GMG say:
50:22
"This variation applies for a free kick or scrum/lineout awarded on the halfway line when the ball emerges in their half, but not at a kick-off or any type of restart kick."

We had a 50:22 from a half way scrum in a game of mine recently - I was AR.

Green re-start on half way. Straight out. Blue opt for scrum. Blue win scrum and blue SH passes to blue #10, blue #10 kicks for touch and it goes into touch inside green 22.

I signal 50:22 ie blue LO however referee gave it the other way. Green LO.

I recall the clarification but haven't looked since.

My understanding was that any scrum on half way is fair game for 50:22 no matter which team wins it (don't laugh).

When refereeing I, like Flish, would inform the teams the 50:22 is available in the same circumstances.

How far forward had blue pushed the scrum?
That is, did the 9 pick up the ball in the green half?
If the feed was taken with the Blue SH shoulder on halfway and fed in straight as per the law - hah! - the ball starts in Blue’s half. If then fed back the 50:22 is on.

But if they feed in, Blue pack drives forward and takes ball over the halfway, then passes back to #8 for the SH to pick-up - the ball has been taken back in so 50:22 no longer an option? Did that happen here?

Can you remember which game and at what approximate time the incident occurred? I like to view an incident before saying the official was incorrect or not. If the scrum was static then a 50/22 should have been permitted.

No. Scrum didn't move appreciably.
