    [In-goal] Seems to me . . .

. . . that every 22DO I see is taken from the middle of the pitch. Don't players realize that they can kick it from anywhere across the pitch and gain options of where the ball drops?

    [7's/10's] Well done Australia!

Terrific weekend in Sydney 7s taking both men's & women's gold. The women blanked Russia then NZ in the final. The men blanked Argentina then SA in their final. If my math is correct the combined scores for both genders over the semis & finals is 119 to 0. That's zero, zip, squat. I can't...

    [Ruck] Hands in the ruck

2018 Law 15 Ruck During the Ruck 11. Once a ruck has formed, no player may handle the ball unless they were able to get their hands on the ball before the ruck formed and stay on their feet. What is being trialled and can you give me a reference? If a player from the tackling team gets hands...

    July rugby in England

I'm possibly going to be in England (Corwall & Yorkshire) in July. Anyone know the dates for the 7s stop? Anything else happening? Thanx in advance.

    [In-goal] Choice?

There are several occasions where we offer the non-offending team a choice. Most recently when a side commits multiple infringements. How about this: Red, close to Blue's goal, chip the ball into goal. Blue defender immediately grounds it. You're just about to whistle for the 22DO when you see...

[In-goal] Knock-on in or into goal

I’m starting a new thread as the discussion re. “knock on in goal” has overwhelmed the thread that was intended to identify differences in the 2017 vs. 2018 books. The question is whether omitting any direct reference to knock-ons in goal has changed the law or how it should be applied. The...

[Line out] Gaming the Quick Throw law

Reading the Simplified Laws I realized that the following scenario could occur. Red, in open play, kick the ball so that it lands in the field of play and goes into touch at Blue's 5m. Normally Blue would take a quick throw there or a lineout at the 5m. What if the enterprising Blue 15 scoops...

[Line out] Simplified Laws - Touch & lineout

TOUCH OR TOUCH-IN-GOAL 2 b. A player jumps, from within or outside the playing area, and catches the ball, and then lands in the playing area, regardless of whether the ball reached the plane of touch. Jumping from outside the playing area, catching and then landing in the playing area has...

    [Law] Best & worst

After expressing my concern that the Laws are not in good hands (another thread) I started thinking of the law changes in the past that I thought were improvements or detriments to the game. Here are my two favorite improvements: Lifting in the lineout. A vast improvement over an unruly mess...

    Over use of YC

Just watched a club competition here in the US. Applying the new 'don't kick it out the ruck' law the referee awarded a PK for a sideways toe-poke. Fair enough although the player thought that only kicking forward was prohibited. However, the player also was shown a YC. For the toe poke, not...
