ball knocked out of players hands... play on or knock on?

My game today. Big high kick from Black giving onside attacker time to make progress up the pitch and contest the ball. Ball clears the Gold full back, so he has to turn and chase and is in a 1-1 footrace with Black. Ball bounces about 7ft up as they are closing in. Black gets 2 hands to it...

[Scrum] Scrum law change and impact on 20.6(d)

Hoping a few more experienced heads can help with this question. The prior 20.6(d) states "The scrum half must throw in the ball straight along the middle line, so that it first touches the ground immediately beyond the width of the nearer prop’s shoulders." The new states "The scrum-half...

[Law] Quick Kick-Off after penalty try

I had this happen in a L10 game today. Penalty try but I elected not to YC. However was still taking a moment to explain my decision and then jot down a few notes. Looked up and the 9 had scooted off to the centre and taken a kick, leaving pretty much all his own team, and the oppo, trying to...

Eng vs Aus - Disallowed Hooper try

Because 11.1(a) is clear that if there is no interference then there is no sanction. And a flanker running a line diagonally across the pitch towards an a anticipated breakdown might be in front of the ball, hence offside, which means they don't fall foul of the 2nd bullet of that law "Moves...

Eng vs Aus - Disallowed Hooper try

I think that calling his movement 'sideways' is being a little generous. Looking at the playback, he advances from being a good 5m (the directional stripes on the grass are 5m wide) short of the 22 at the time of the kick to being just about on it by the time he is put onside. That's a...
